Washington house stands in the Main Street.It is not known which branch of the Washington family first lived there,rebuilding took place in 1812 and two datestones were incorporated. One bears the date 1612.In the top left hand corner is an indecipherable design.The motif in the centre is a rose surmounted by a crown.JR in the top right hand corner denoted James Rex.RWS may refer to Robert Washington or Richard Washington and his wife. The other datestone has not been explained.96 could be the year of the century when the stone was first placed.The second of the initials is often found on old buildings as a Mason's Mark.Generally it stands for the initails of the mason,either JW or TW.
